Tables are a commonly used formatting tool to help present large amounts of information, in reports, books and presentations. Often, we see them on websites to display information and data, however, on our websites we ask that you avoid using tables on your pages.
Why we don’t use tables in our CMS?
As editors, it is tempting to want to format information on your page using tables. However, tables don’t always provide a great user experience, especially for mobile users. With table formatting rigid, columns can get cut off and data can be missed on smaller screens. The goal of displaying the table in the first place may also be missed.
Difficulties can be faced when we use text in cells, especially large chunks of it. Users may lose their place, have trouble finding the information they need, lose interest and leave.
What we recommend?
There may be a better way to present your content without using tables. Consider using accordions or headings to structure your content instead of tables. This way, your content will be readable on mobile devices.
