There’s no doubt we all have a lot on our plates. Between regular work duties, project work, meetings and emails, the weeks really do fly by. We end up asking ourselves, ‘how is it <insert random month here> already?’ at various times throughout the year.

With the rapid pace of modern life, things tend to slip away if they aren’t prioritised. Something we don’t want to see slip away are regular updates of your website.

Web content can quickly become out of date and inaccurate if not kept an eye on. Old events, dates, broken links and images can start to appear. These issues reduce the credibility of your site and hinder the user experience.

That’s why we recommend scheduling in regular site audits. They say a stitch in time saves nine, we say an hour a week, keeps your site on fleek.

How often should I be editing?

As a requirement of your web editing duties, you’re asked to commit to 1-3 hours of editing per week.

Remember, if your page is published it is always live and findable, so you want to ensure what your site says is accurate.

By scheduling in an hour each week, or two hours a fortnight, you can keep on top of your website. An accurate website ensures you’re putting your best foot forward online for your audiences e.g. prospective or current students, investors, researchers, stakeholders etc.

You may even like to use our monthly editor lab sessions as your regular editing time.

What should I do during my scheduled time?

Your duties will depend on when the most recent audit of your site was done. If it’s been a while since you looked at your site, we recommend you request a site audit from our team through the Digital Marketing Request system. This will give you a list of all the pages within your site, and when they were last updated.

Use this audit to go through each page individually, and assess them against our web content review checklist.

Once your site is accurate and the content has been refreshed, you may like to use your time to plan new content and improvements to make to your site.
