We all know January is a great month for planning and goal setting. It’s also the perfect time to plan what you’d like to achieve for your website in the year ahead. To help get your website in tip-top shape in 2020 we’ve come up with 5 goals to add to your list.
Goal 1: schedule time for regular editing
With a busy workload and competing priorities, regular web editing can often slip away. But with websites being a primary communication tool, it’s important to make sure you’re conducting regular checks to ensure it remains accurate. This year, make your website a priority by scheduling in a regular time in your calendar to edit and review your website.
Use our website content review checklist when editing.
Goal 2: say goodbye to broken links
Links are an essential part of websites. They help guide a user to the information they are looking for. However, the everchanging nature of the web means that links often break. To ensure your broken links aren’t breaking the hearts of users, conduct regular checks to ensure your hyperlinks are healthy and active.
Refresh your memory about understanding hyperlinks and learn how to enhance a user journey through call to action buttons.
Goal 3: attend a web editor lab
Register to attend one of our monthly editor labs. It’s a safe space where you can ask your questions, work on your tasks and learn something new about the web. You’ll also get to speak with a member of our team face-to-face and meet your fellow editors.
Goal 4: spring clean your site
Is there a month in your calendar that looks a little quiet? Why not prioritise a web audit for this month? Regular auditing of your site helps to ensure assets you don’t want people to find are removed from the site. Think of old documents and images. Although they may not be linked anywhere on your site, if they are a published asset they’ll be findable by search. Request a site asset inventory from our team, get out your favourite red pen and start culling those old assets that no longer serve you.
Get a step ahead by learning how to wrangling your microsite’s documents.
Goal 5: share your thoughts
Got something you’d like to learn about web editing in 2020? We’d love to hear it! To help us with our plans for the year ahead, we would like your feedback. We’ve created a short survey for you to complete.
So what are you waiting for? Get started on achieving your goals this year!
We look forward to working with you in 2020.
